Once you have decided on your tour itinerary you will need to let us know the exact dates of your arrival and departure from Bhutan so that we can book your flights. This is one of the most critical factors for your visit to Bhutan. Bhutan has only one international airport and two airlines, the national airline Drukair and private airline Bhutan Airlines, a subsidiary of Tashi Air Pvt Ltd. Consequently, flights are often sold out months in advance, especially during the peak tourist seasons.
At present Drukair has regular flights between Paro and Bangkok in Thailand; New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai Bagdogra, Guwahati, and Bodh Gaya in India; Kathmandu in Nepal, and Dhaka in Bangladesh, and Singapore. Click here for Drukair's flight schedule and ticket costs.
Private airline Bhutan Airlines (Tashi Air Pvt Ltd) also operates between Paro and Bangkok, Kolkata, and Kathmandu. Click here for Bhutan Airline's flight schedule and ticket costs
In case it is not possible to obtain a seat on Drukair or Bhutan Airlines on the required dates, the only alternative is to enter Bhutan overland through India. The nearest airport to Bhutan is Bagdogra in the Indian state of West Bengal–about 156 km, (approximately 4 hour's drive) from Bhutan's main southern gateway town of Phuentsholing. Further to the east, there is another airport at Guwahati in the state of Assam - about 110 km from Samdrup Jongkhar which the main point of entry into eastern Bhutan. In either case we will receive you at the airport in India and escort you to Phuentsholing or Samdrup Jongkhar the same day.
It should be noted that although both Bagdogra and Guwahati have been designated as international airports, as of now, aside from Druk Air which has flights from Bangkok, no other international carrier operates flights to either airport. As such, if you opt for the overland route you will have to take an international flight to one of the major Indian airports such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai or Kolkata, and then connect to a domestic flight. You will, therefore need to obtain an Indian visa.
